↳ 4 Step Goal Setting framework
#1 - What problem is your goal solving?
→ Pro tip - if it’s not solving a problem, don’t do it.
How to think about it as an entrepreneur:
Does it help you get more customers?
Does it help increase the value of your existing customers?
Will it increase the value of your company?
↳ Example:
Goal - increase the number of sales calls I make.
Problem it should solve - helps get more customers
#2 - Create a hypothesis
→ Pro tip - Define the thing you want to do (input) and define the result you want from doing the thing (output).
Figure out what you are trying to test
↳ Example:
If I increase the number of sales calls I make per day from 20 → 40 (input) I will get 50% more qualified leads each week (output)
#3 - Execute
→ Pro tip - Just do it.
↳ Example:
Input change - increase daily sales calls from 20 to 40
Output change - go from 15 qualified leads to 23 qualified leads
#4 - Measure
→ Pro tip - if you did the input but the output was not as expected you can go again.
Most goals aren’t hypotheses so the input never changes even if it’s not working.
With a hypothesis if the input doesn’t produce the output then re-work the goal.
↳ Example:
If I increased the number of sales calls I made per day from 20 → 40 (input) BUT the result was only an increase from 15 → 18 qualified leads each week (output).
Then a better goal may be to change the structure or script of my sales call rather than increase the number of calls - new hypothesis.
